Social and political life of Муkolaіv in 1917 on the pages of the local press
Abstract
The article is devoted to the analysis of local periodicals as a source on the history of social and political processes in Муkolaіv during 1917. The author analyzes the reliability of the given factual material, the usefulness of this information for displaying the political life of the times of the Ukrainian revolution. The article examines the process of creating new government bodies, activating the activities of political parties on the pages of local newspapers. The attitude of the local population to political events is shown.Local periodicals reflect the life of Муkolaіv on the eve of the revolution, in the conditions of the economic crisis caused by the First World War. Based on material from newspapers, the creation of new authorities in Муkolaіv in the spring of 1917 is shown: the Council of Workers and Military Deputies, the Public Committee, the People’s Police.There is an increase in the struggle between different political parties, which intensified in the fall of 1917 after the Bolshevik coup. The local press is an important source on the history of the creation of the troops of the Ukrainian People’s Republic in Муkolaіv. Ukrainian Zaporozhye regiment, artillery units became the main military force of the Ukrainian Central Rada in Муkolaіv.It is noted that the political confrontation in Муkolaіv ended in December 1917 with an armed struggle between the troops of the Ukrainian People’s Republic and supporters of Soviet power. The factors that led to the defeat of the forces supporting the Ukrainian Central Rada are analyzed.It is noted that the active use of periodicals will contribute to a more detailed study of the events of the Ukrainian revolution of 1917-1921 by modern historical science.
